Cleaning Supplies: Pet Edition

I figure it's about time for me to write a post on cleaning. As everyone knows Adam and I have 2 dogs and they are our little furry babies :) (ok, not so little but still our babies).
This is Roxy:

This is Puck:

As we all know, dogs are messy!! Occasionally they tend to get sick and it is gross. Luckily we don't have any carpet throughout most of our house so we don't have to worry about a lot of stains. Our dogs do have carpet in their crates though and that is where they tend to get sick. My sisters gave me a basket of cleaning supplies when I got married and inside the basket was this little gem:
Woolite Pet Oxygen Stain & Odor Remover. I've used this every time the dogs get sick in their crate or on the 1 area rug we have in the house and it is magic! It gets rid of the stain every time and there's no smell left. All you have to do is pick up the mess, spray Woolite generously over the area, let sit for a few minutes, then dab up with paper towel. I highly recommend this for every pet owner out there!

Monkey Bread

I love to bake! Love it! Cakes, pies, breads, muffins, you name it I love it. Pinterest has been my kryptonite when it comes to baking with all the amazing recipes there are. I found a recipe for monkey bread recently and had to try it!

Here's what you need:
2 cans of Pillsbury Grands rolls
1 stick of butter
1 cup sugar
2 tsp cinnamon (my sugar and cinnamon is already mixed together)
1 cup brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla

Cut up your biscuits into pieces and mix a few pieces at a time in the cinnamon sugar mix
Put the pieces in a very greased pan (I used 2 pie pans)
Melt your butter, brown sugar, and vanilla in a pan and let boil for a minute. Then pour it over the biscuit pieces.
Bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes, let cool, and enjoy!

I turned my pie pans upside down and dumped it out. The top of it was a little crispy just where liquid wasn't on the biscuit pieces but besides that it's sooo good!!

Super Doubles Success!

This morning I woke up early and headed out to tackle my Super Double trips at Harris Teeter and Lowe's Food.

My first stop was Harris Teeter. Here's my result:
Before store discounts and coupons my total was: $74.27.
After store discounts and coupons my total was: $18.66.
I saved $55.61!

My second trip was to Lowe's Food. Here's what I got:
Before store discounts and coupons my total was: $72.35
After store discounts and coupons my total was: $30.74
I saved $41.61!
This trip was a little more expensive since I had to buy meat and some products I didn't have coupons for.

My total out of pocket for both trips was: $49.40
My total savings was: $97.22

I will probably head out a couple more times this week and pick up a few things here and there but this will be my biggest trip during the sale.

Preparing for Super Doubles

As some of you may know I love to coupon! I started really using coupons back in August and after my first big shopping trip with a lot of savings I was hooked!

There is a promotion starting Wednesday and running through the following Tuesday at Harris Teeter  and Lowe's Food called Super Doubles! The rules of super doubles are:

1- They will double coupons up to $1.98. If you have a coupon for $1 off a product they will take that coupon and take $2 off the product. A $1.50 coupon will allow you to have $3 off a product!
2- They will only double 20 coupons per day (you can use more then 20 coupons but they will only be taken at face value).
3- They will only double up to 3 "like" coupons from newspapers and 2 "like" printable coupons from the internet.
4- If you have an E-Vic card you can load digital coupons from the HT website onto it and use those in combination with a paper coupon. (This does not apply to Lowe's Food- they do not allow the stacking of digital coupons and paper coupons).

On a normal week I typically buy 2-3 newspapers to cut coupons from. When there's a big promotion coming up like this I buy anywhere from 5-10 papers!

This is  what my coffee table looks like, and will look like for the next week!

The secret to couponing success is to let someone else do the work :-). I follow a few coupon blogs and those people typically get the sales ad before the sale starts so they can match up sale prices with coupons so you get the best value for your money! I hate to give away my favorite one but the best blog I follow is Moola Saving Mom she lives in NC and will make spreadsheets with the sale prices and match them with coupons and show you the final price and how much you save. Here's the HT list she has done: HT List it's a live list so she will be continuing to update it until the sale is over.

The good thing about using coupons is it allows you to create a "stock pile." For me personally I only stock up on items that I know we will use and items that won't expire before we get to them. That means a lot of bathroom products, laundry, and other things and not a lot of food products (you can really only stock up on foods that are shelf stable otherwise you run the risk of having a lot of expired food). Here's an idea of what Adam and I have stocked up on:
Laundry detergent that I only spent between $1.50-$2 for each.

Deodorant and soap- spent under $.75 on each product.

Dish soap, the bigger bottles I paid $.75 for and the small bottles were either $.25 or free!

Our toothpaste that was all free.

Our boxes of Hamburger Helper (8 total) that I paid $.25 per box.

Now, I'm not crazy like the people on the Extreme Couponing show and buy $1000 worth of product for only $5 because you technically can't do that. You have to follow the rules set by the store that way we can keep using coupons and the stores won't cut out special events like Super Doubles. Make sure you're also following all the rules that are listed on the coupons as well. If it states you have to buy a certain size of a product then you must buy that size, don't try to use it for a different size. The only crazy thing I do is get the store right when it opens at 6 a.m. that way I can get the good deals :-).

If anyone has questions I will be happy to help and answer them! I like to help people save money and it's just a fun thing to do. I will post a follow up after I shop on Wednesday and let you all know how I did!

Chicken Caesar Sandwiches

Tonight was another attempt at a new dinner recipe: Chicken Caesar Sandwiches (from the crock pot).

Here is what you will need:
Caesar dressing- 1 cup
Garlic Powder- 1/2 tsp
Pepper- 1/2 tsp
Parmesan Cheese- 1/2 cup
Hamburger buns
2 Chicken breasts (mine are in the crock pot)

Put chicken breasts in the crock pot and cover with water (just enough to cover the chicken), allow to cook for 5-6 hours on low.
Take chicken out of crock pot and dump water out. Put chicken in a large bowl and shred with 2 forks, add dressing, garlic powder, pepper, and cheese.
Return to crock pot for 20-30 minutes on high to heat up.
(here's my terrible quality photo of chicken back in the crock pot)

Scoop out and place on hamburger buns

Add a little lettuce if you want :)

It was decent, haha. Adam wasn't a fan of it so I probably won't make it again. This is what happens when you try new things :)

Jumping on the bandwagon!

I've decided to jump on the blogging bandwagon. Hooray! (Adam just shook his head when I told him)

This will pretty much be all about my experiences in the life of a wife. My adventures in cooking, cleaning, couponing, crafting, and other things I attempt to do.

So tonight we will start with the dinner I made. Thanks to Pinterest for my recipe (seriously, we would be eating the same 5 meals all the time if it weren't for Pinterest) I made Chicken Ranch Tacos!

Here is everything you will need:

Cooked chicken (I cooked 2 chicken breasts)
Ranch- (1/2 cup)
Package of Chicken Taco seasoning (or beef seasoning or whatever you like)
Then whatever taco fixings you like (we're simple- just cheese and lettuce)

I cooked the chicken and cut it up into bite size pieces and put it in a skillet with about half the chicken seasoning:

Then I added the Ranch dressing (little less then half a cup):

Mix it all together will on medium heat for a few minutes then make your tacos!
These are Adam's tacos, they were much more photogenic than mine:

They were very delicious and probably something we will make again.

Thanks for checking out my first blog post, hopefully this is something I will keep up :).
